Hong Kong, 30 May 2007 - 3 Hong Kong announced today the exclusive launch of Japan’s prevalent mobile communications services - i-mode, providing a host of content that integrates a compelling Japanese flavour with the chic lifestyle of young people in Hong Kong. Accompanying the trendy content are clear and flexible integrated voice and data monthly plans, offering an unsurpassed mobile data application experience to the mobile community. Register for i-mode services during the promotion period, users are entitled for free subscription for two months and i-mode limited edition souvenirs.
Hong Kong version i-mode features unique style content
3 Hong Kong, riding on its extensive experience in promoting mobile data service development and vision, has joined hands with NTT DoCoMo to research, develop and launch i-mode in Hong Kong, maximising the technological strengths of i-mode and addressing local market needs. 3 Hong Kong actively drives content providers from Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong to develop unique content and applications that exemplify i-mode’s exclusive features such as peppy visual effects and smooth user interface.
The Hong Kong version of i-mode provides flourishing content such as “Info Today”, a free information channel that offers the most trendy lifestyle information in Japan and Hong Kong. i-mode Blog sites allow i-mode users to create their own content and make new friends anytime anywhere. Other interesting contents include 3 Hong Kong i-mode users’ exclusive handset-enabled 3D Gundam Java games, Japanese all-time favourite Ultraman downloads, popular handset photo stickers and installation-free instant i-mail services. The list goes on.

Flexible integrated monthly plans make data browsing less costly and automatic conversion from video to voice minutes
3 Hong Kong launches simple integrated voice and data monthly plans* to tie in with the hassle-free lifestyle of i-mode users. Monthly service plans start from $98 per month, inclusive of voice, video minutes and data capacity (from 2MB to unlimited usage). Once subscribed to i-mode services, customers will enjoy non-stop splendid data info and other services such as browsing other i-mode websites.
Data charges are calculated by KB. Customers can check their data usage on i-mode website anytime. Thereafter data charge is only $0.002 per KB and $88 at top. Customers can completely feel at ease in browsing i-mode information or using unlimited data services. In addition, 3 Hong Kong caters for customers’ convenience by allowing the automatic conversion of unused video minutes to voice minutes.
Ms Lung explained: “In Hong Kong, young customers account for one-third or approximately two million people of the total market. We not only have to constantly update our content to attract the young crowd, but also be mindful of their purchasing mode and lifestyle when offering monthly plans. As such, a simple and clear calculation method for data usage and a capped data charge can enable more customers to experience the pleasure of i-mode services.”
To let i-mode tribe freely roam in the i-mode world, 3 Hong Kong provides flat monthly plans for a number of content services such as unlimited downloads of G-mode Java games, the leading mobile handset game brand in Japan, at $18 per month and unlimited downloads of Neway’s music content at $15 per month.
i-mode supports 2G and 3G handsets. 3 Hong Kong initially presents three i-mode handsets manufactured by Motorola, Samsung and NEC.
Join i-mode community and enjoy two months free subscription and other benefits
From now until 31 July 2007, customers who subscribe to any i-mode monthly plans with purchase of i-mode handsets are entitled to two months free subscription and an additional of six months free 2MB data capacity, which is equivalent to approximately 1,000 emails, or can be used for browsing other i-mode content.
3 Hong Kong i-mode initially launches about 70 selected i-mode websites. To welcome mobile tribe to the new i-mode community, more than 40 i-mode websites will present their first month service free at launch. In addition, each i-mode monthly plan comes with a selection of i-mode’s exclusive souvenirs – a status symbol of i-mode belongers.
