History and Development

3 is a leading mobile brand operated by Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited ("HTHKH"; Stock Code: 215). HTHKH is a member of Hutchison Whampoa Group (“HWL”; Stock Code: 13).

We launched one of the first mobile telecommunications networks in Hong Kong in 1983 and over the next 20 plus years built one of the largest and most successful 2G and 3G mobile networks in Hong Kong - one of the most competitive mobile markets in the world.

We launched the market's first 3G network in 2004, with our network rapidly expanding to cover over 99.9% of the territory. It is currently one of the largest 3G operator in the market, offering high speed mobile data services via its HSPA network.

In addition to advanced 3G mobile technology,we are well known for our innovations, customer-centric service culture and wide choice of the latest and most advanced handsets from global leaders such as Apple, LG, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Sony. Through many strategic brand awareness campaigns, 3 quickly became a strong, stylish and well-recognised brand in the territory.

Based on the most sophisticated wireless technology available, our 3G services include mobile TV, streaming / downloading of music and video clips and access to a wide range of information and entertainment services, such as news, financial information, fashion, weather, sports ,traffic updates and movie trailers.

With our 3.6 Mbps HSDPA network in action in November 2006, we launched the revolutionary X-Series services in Hong Kong, making the PC, TV and the Internet available on mobile devices, heralding a new era of mobile broadband convergence. Available exclusively on 3's network, the X-Series enables users to enjoy unlimited access to a host of the most popular mobile broadband Internet applications, including MSN, Yahoo! Go, Sling, orb, Novarra, eBay and Skype.

Our 2G customers enjoy many value added services such as voicemail, caller identification display, call waiting, call forwarding and call blocking, in addition to standard local voice services, IDD and international roaming.

Our data services are based on investment in advanced technology, such as HSDPA modem cards which offer users wireless Internet access, e-mail and corporate network connection. We also offer inter-operator video calls, SMS (Short Message Services), BlackBerry™ wireless e-mail services as well as MMS (Multimedia Message Services) over both GSM and GPRS platforms.

We parterned with Apple to be the first telecom operator in Greater China to launch iPhone™ 3G in July 2008.
