Hong Kong, 9 November 2013– 3 Hong Kong, the
mobile arm of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH,
stock code: 215), today announced that expansion of its 4G LTE coverage - to include
the MTR’s East Rail, West Rail, Ma On
Shan and Lok Ma Chau Spur lines - is set to compete in December. The result
will be that commuters will benefit from reliable high-speed 4G service throughout
the entirety of MTR’s current network.
4G LTE network rollout timeline
Our 4G LTE service becomes
available at East Tsim Sha Tsui Station on the West Rail Line in the early hours
of Tuesday, 12 November; while the East Rail Line is expected to be covered by late
November, followed by the West Rail Line and Ma On Shan Line in early December,
and the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line before end of year.
4G/3G network expansion aligned with MTR rail extension plans
Early this year, 3 Hong
Kong’s 4G LTE service became available throughout seven main MTR lines – Island, Tsuen Wan, Tseung Kwan O, Tung Chung, Disneyland
Resort, Airport Express and Kwun Tong. Service expansion has been aligned with MTR’s
rail extension plans such that our 3G and 4G services are expected to become
available on the new West Island Line from Sheung Wan to Kennedy Town, the South
Island Line (East) from Admiralty to South Horizons and the Kwun Tong Line Extension
from Yau Ma Tei to Whampoa when construction completes between 2014 and 2015.
