“Recycling of Handset Accessories” program launched to
encourage responsible disposal and environmental protection

Hong Kong, 8 August 2012 – Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (the Group; Stock Code: 215) today announced that its 3 Hong Kong mobile business has launched the “Recycling of Handset Accessories” corporate social responsibility program to encourage everyone to help protect the environment and make good use of Earth’s resources by handing over unwanted handset accessories for recycling, rather than to simply discard them as rubbish.
3 Hong Kong will place handset accessory recycling boxes (see photo) at more than 40 locations – including certain 3Shops, 3Mobile Device Service Centres and the 3Experience Workshop – all over Hong Kong to promote responsible disposal of old phone accessories. These items will be passed to the "Rechargeable Battery Recycling Programme" run by the Environmental Protection Department, industry and green groups, as well as other voluntary organisations for recycling or reuse, building on the town’s growing environmental awareness.
Jennifer Tan, HTHKH’s Chief Financial Officer, said: “As one of the largest local mobile telecoms operators, 3 Hong Kong is committed to introducing advanced smart devices to the benefit of customers. A constant succession of top-notch smart devices appearing on the market means many mobile users are switching to newer models or accessories, rendering their old gadgetry obsolete. We are therefore delighted to launch the ‘Recycling of Handset Accessories’ initiative by placing collection boxes at our various public touchpoints and encouraging customers to hand in old accessories for recycling or reuse. Given the Group’s extensive network of collection locations and large customer base, we believe this program will help motivate all walks of life to support environmental protection, make the best use of resources and observe responsible disposal of unwanted handset accessories.”
The program’s main aim is to collect handset accessories, such as batteries, chargers, headphones, earpieces, USB cables and stylus pens, and pass them on a regular basis to green groups and voluntary organisations for recycling or reuse among the needy. Help save our planet. Act now!
