3-3G-network first in Hong Kong to cover MTR concourses, platforms and tunnels
3 services available below street level Subscribers can enjoy exclusive video calls, voice calls and high-speed data transmission services

3 Hong Kong (3HK) today announces that the extension work of its 3-3G-network for different MTR lines is in full swing. Subscribers can enjoy uninterrupted video, voice and high-speed data transmission services from street level down to platforms and tunnels of Sheung Wan, Central and Admiralty stations. 3HK will continue to work closely with the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) to cover other stations, and by the end of August 2005, comprehensive 3G coverage is expected for all MTR lines and the Airport Express.

3HK - first to have signed 3G network agreement with MTRCL
3HK, the first and currently the only 3G operator in Hong Kong, signed an agreement with MTRCL early last year. It is continually striving to be the first 3G operator to provide full 3G network coverage for all MTR lines. When 3HK first launched the city's maiden 3G service in January 2004, its 3-3G-network initially covered the concourses of MTR stations. By now, the number of MTR stations with 3G coverage has increased to 25. They include:

- Stations from Tsim Sha Tsui to Prince Edward on the Tsuen Wan Line
- Stations from Sheung Wan to Tai Koo on the Island Line
- Hong Kong, Kowloon and Tsing Yi on the Tung Chung Line and the Airport Express
- Several above-the-ground MTR stations

For Sheung Wan, Central and Admiralty stations, 3G coverage has even been furthered extended to platforms and tunnels. Wan Chai station will follow suit in mid November. It is expected that the 3-3G-network will have been gradually extended to stations on the Island line, the Airport Express and the Tung Chung Line by early next year. By the end of August 2005, full 3G coverage is expected to cover all MTR stations and the Airport Express. By then, in MTR stations with 3-3G-network coverage, subscribers will be able to enjoy full 3G video and voice call services and experience the fastest data transmission speed along with comprehensive roaming services. With the advanced live streaming technology of the 3-3G-network, real-time traffic conditions and news are also up for grabs.

According to Mrs Agnes Nardi, Managing Director of 3 Hong Kong, 3HK is continually striving to expand its world-class 3-3G-network coverage to bring the best of video mobile services to its users both in the underground and at above-the-ground locations. High traffic locations such as the MTR and the Airport Express are particularly catered for. Not only did 3HK pioneer the 3G network construction works at MTR stations, it has also been working proactively with MTRCL to expand its 3G coverage. It is just a few more steps for 3HK to fully expand its 3-3G-network coverage to all MTR stations and Airport Express stations.

"3HK has provided 99% of Hong Kong's densely populated areas with 3G coverage. We also offer "3G • 2G CROSSOVER" superiority on a single handset, connecting users via more than 3,300 cell sites. We are the first in the world to have extended a network to subways and elevators, and the first local 3G operator to have signed an agreement with MTRCL on establishing the 3-3G-network at MTR lines. We have been working closely together, aiming to provide full and excellent 3G coverage for all MTR lines and the Airport Express by the end of next August," Mrs Nardi said.
