Hong Kong, 28 December 2015 - 3 Hong Kong, the mobile communications division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215) today announced completion of a successful bilateral international voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) roaming trial with Japan’s NTT DOCOMO, INC.

Fast-track deployment of VoLTE roaming technology
The trial involved S8 Home Routed (S8HR) architecture, an LTE data roaming-based technology that can be deployed without IMS interaction between parties. This simple arrangement enables VoLTE roaming service to be made available in fast-track fashion to deliver superior end-to-end world-class quality* HD voice and video roaming.

When up and running commercially, this advanced network design will enable 3 Hong Kong and NTT DOCOMO customers to enjoy top-quality VoLTE roaming in Hong Kong and Japan.

Pursuit of technology excellence delivers a better user experience
3 Hong Kong explores and deploys new technologies soon after they emerge, and became one of the first mobile operators in Asia to launch VoWi-Fi earlier this year. This followed FDD and TDD LTE-A network trials that achieved download speeds up to 1Gbps. The project offers more evidence of 3 Hong Kong’s pioneering style.
