| Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings wins bid for the 900MHz spectrum
Optimising network performance with additional bandwidth
Reaffirming market leadership |

Hong Kong, 3 March 2011 - Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (“Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings”; “Group”; SEHK: 215) announced today that it has successfully bid for the 900MHz spectrum in the auction held for radio spectrum in the 850MHz, 900MHz and 2GHz bands by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority. With the additional network bandwidth made available by the newly acquired 900MHz spectrum, Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings ensures its customers can fully enjoy the convenience brought by the broadband era, and reaffirms its leading position in Hong Kong’s mobile telecom market.
As the successful bidder for the 900MHz spectrum, Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings will pay a Spectrum Utilisation Fee of HK$1,077 million (i.e. the accepted bidding price). Mr Peter Wong, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings said, “In order to enhance customers’ mobile experience from time to time, we always work very hard to introduce cutting edge technologies and facilities. Radio spectrum is a valuable resource to the telecommunications sector. The fierce competition observed in this auction highlights the significance of spectrum to network development. Our successful bid for the new spectrum not only demonstrates our staunch commitment to delivering optimal network performance and improving the overall quality of our services, but also strengthens our ability to meet the huge demand for bandwidth that is being driven by the emergence of new data devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs. As such, we anticipate continuous growth of our market share in 3G services, and translation of that growth into long-term value for our shareholders.”
To meet customers’ huge and ever-increasing demand for data services, Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings works unceasingly to optimise its network. In 2009, the Group launched a network modernisation and expansion project for its 3G network to increase the transmission speed up to 42Mbps. We have also restructured our existing spectrum to expand and improve our coverage, boosting both the volume and quality of communication for customers. Genius Brand Limited, a joint venture formed between Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings and PCCW-HKT, was awarded a 4G license in 2009 with a block of 30MHz spectrum to build a LTE network. The laboratory tests and field trials were completed in mid-2010 with very satisfactory results. When the LTE network is launched in the near future, Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings will be well positioned to deliver an even more enjoyable mobile experience to customers, meet the increasing demand for mobile data services, and continue to spearhead the development of the local mobile broadband market.
