3 Hong Kong launches a series of security solutions to establish a secure mobile working platform for corporate clients

  • 3 Hong Kong responds to the “bring your own device” (BYOD) trend by developing mobile security solutions
  • Collaboration with Check Point results in security solutions to safeguard mobile devices owned by corporate staff
  • BlackBerry® Workspaces is safe and reliable in granting clear visibility to the document-updating process
  • Enterprise Mobile Recording Solution tailored to the financial industry
Hong Kong – 19 May 2017  – 3 Hong Kong, the mobile division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215), today announced launch of a series of highly-secure mobile applications for corporate staff handling sensitive business information on their own mobile devices. These efficiency-boosting apps allow corporate employees in any industry to work via mobile devices anytime, anywhere – all in the comfort of knowing all is safe and secure.

Safe and reliable corporate mobile solutions launched in step with BYOD trend
Mobility among corporate staff is now the norm. An international survey1 reports that 50% of employers around the world will this year encourage staff to “bring your own device” – a trend known as BYOD. More than 40% of respondents said a major concern was security, while only a little over 20% confirmed their devices were malware-free. Mobile device and office solution security is far too important to be neglected, prompting 3 Hong Kong to launch a series of solutions to plug the security gap across a spectrum of industries.

1. Check Point SandBlast Mobile safeguards corporate information
3 Hong Kong has collaborated with Check Point to launch SandBlast Mobile – a mobile device security solution for large enterprises. Attributes include:

  • An excellent track record in detecting and apprehending malware delivered by Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) email, as well as social and drive-by exploits aimed at iOS and Android devices.
  • The solution detects malicious Wi-Fi networks and apps – along with known and unknown threats – by using a “threat-emulation” process by which advanced static code analysis is conducted to explore an app’s reputation and machine learning.
  • A cloud-based dashboard provides security and mobility teams with real-time threat intelligence, plus visibility into the nature of threats likely to launch attacks. Users are alerted the instant a threat is detected.

2. Check Point ZoneAlarm app meets the needs of corporate employees
3 Hong Kong will collaborate with Check Point to launch ZoneAlarm service. This will extend the solution’s market from large corporations to corporate staff. Attributes include:

  • A multi-layered approach to protect mobile devices. Users receive alerts and recommendations relating to risk of malware attacks – all to safeguard information stored on mobile devices.
  • The service alerts users to infected applications, while protecting operating systems from attack, thanks to features that perform scans and updates to the system.
  • The service also detects unsafe Wi-Fi and ranks hotspots according to security level to prevent users from connecting to malicious wireless networks.

3. BlackBerry® Workspaces manages documents securely and reliably
3 Hong Kong has also partnered with BlackBerry to launch BlackBerry® Workspaces. Attributes include:

  • Workers can access content anytime from anywhere and share files inside and outside their organisation, all as part of a highly-secure and efficient mobile working experience.
  • BlackBerry® Workspaces enables customers to secure, synchronise and control sharing rights, while accessing the latest and previous versions of documents and files across mobile platforms that include iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows and Mac.
  • Workspaces also supports various deployment solutions for customers including cloud, servers in their offices, or hybrid models depending on need.

4. Enterprise  Mobile Recording Solution tailored to the financial industry
Financial regulations the world over have become increasingly more stringent in their demands. Various regulators in Europe and the US, for example, require banks to record sales conversations when clients buy investment products2. But current compliant recording facilities are compatible only with fixed-line telephone systems. 3 Hong Kong has therefore collaborated with IPC to launch the Enterprise Mobile Recording Solution, so financial corporations can meet stringent internal and external regulations. Attributes include:

  • This SIM-based service prohibits end users from deactivating the record function, in accordance with internal regulations.
  • The record function is activated automatically – without affecting voice quality – whenever a call connects. The solution allows customers to choose whether they save such recordings on a company server or in the cloud, for easy and convenient management and retrieval. The end result is greatly enhanced working efficiency for enterprises.

Operators and mobile application providers join forces to build a safe mobile working environment
Edmund Yick, General Manager - Enterprise Market of 3 Hong Kong, said: “3 Hong Kong attaches enormous importance to serving the mobile corporate solutions market and has launched a succession of such services tailored to different industries. The BYOD trend has become hugely popular, so we are glad to partner with Check Point, BlackBerry and IPC to introduce global mobile security services to the benefit of the Hong Kong market. This involves building an advanced one-stop security platform, while helping our corporate clients boost working efficiency, enjoy greater flexibility and become more competitive.”

Steve McWhirter, Check Point’s Vice President of Sales, Asia, Middle-East and Africa, said: “The risk of mobile security keeps changing as there are new devices entering the corporate network everyday, while hackers keep developing malwares and other attacking methods that target mobile devices. To keep the companies’ network safe, corporate clients need to keep pace with the trend.”

He added: “Since the usage of mobile devices keeps increasing in today’s companies, they need a more comprehensive solution to protect all devices, both provided by the companies and brought by the staff. The solution needs to block malwares and network attacks, prevent information leakage and theft of authentication provided that the user experience has not been affected.”

Mike Ding, Senior Director for North Asia Sales, BlackBerry said: “BlackBerry today is a global software leader in securing, connecting and mobilising enterprises. We appreciate the support of our long-term partner, 3 Hong Kong throughout our journey and their recognition of BlackBerry Workspaces as a key solution to help customers be more secure, mobile and collaborative. We are delighted to see 3 Hong Kong extend the benefits of BlackBerry Workspaces to its corporate customers, helping them to manage the complexity and cost of sharing secure files and information inside and outside their organisations.”
