3 Hong Kong conducts final network testing on
MTR’s South Island Line for when it goes live on 28 December

Hong Kong – 19 December 2016
 – 3 Hong Kong today announced that final mobile network testing and fine tuning are being conducted on the extended section of the MTR’s Admiralty Station, as well as throughout four new stations and a tunnel on the South Island Line. An advanced mobile service will be ready for 3 Hong Kong customers when the South Island Line opens on 28 December. Meanwhile, a network enhancement project launched by 3 Hong Kong throughout 18 high-traffic MTR stations aims to increase capacity manyfold to provide a better overall user experience.

Keeping pace with MTR development to provide advanced telecoms service
Investment and know-how from 3 Hong Kong and other local operators have been channelled into providing the South Island Line with the same kind of integrated wireless telecoms system that serves stations and tunnels on other MTR lines.

3 Hong Kong will continue monitoring network traffic and investigating ways of boosting capacity to satisfy ever-rising data demands from customers. A 4G network enhancement project, for example, is being carried out at 18 MTR stations such as Tsim Sha Tsui, Mongkok and Causeway Bay – and is now complete on the Tsim Sha Tsui and Prince Edward concourses.

Daniel Chung, Chief Technology Officer (Mobile) of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings, said: “3 Hong Kong is committed to establishing a comprehensive mobile telecoms network. We keep up with MTR development by laying new network infrastructure and paying special attention to network performance at MTR stations. This is about increasing network capacity wherever practicable, so customers can enjoy an advanced and smooth mobile experience.”
