Summary

  • Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong (HTHK) is one of the few telecoms operators that own a world-class 100G optical-fibre backbone network in Hong Kong. Leveraging this advanced network, our fixed-line, Wi-Fi and mobile networks are all supported by 1G backhaul connection.

  • HTHK has united the three networks to deliver a superb customer experience and serve various lifestyles, covering personal telecommunications, entertainment and business applications. The tri-network also provides stable and reliable interconnection, smooth and diverse telecoms services to prepare Hong Kong to move on to an international smart city, as well as facilitating the development of Internet of Things (IoT).

    Fixed-line operations and Wi-Fi
  • HGC’s 100G optical-fibre backbone network is powered by Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology with high transmission speeds and a low latency of less than one millisecond. HGC’s fibre-optic cable cores add up to over 1.45 million km, enough to circle the earth over 36 times.

  • 3Home Broadband coverage now exceeds 1.8 million home-passes of which over 90% are able to enjoy 100M to 1G high-speed broadband service and about 740,000 households enjoy 1G Fibre-to-the-Home service. 3Home Broadband expects to achieve two million home-passes and cover 80% of the households by the end of 2017.

  • HGC is committed to developing an Over-the-Top platform. We collaborate with various content providers to offer customers high quality entertainment service leveraging 3Home Broadband’s 1G residential broadband network. 3 Hong King will offer free

  • HGC is the largest commercial Wi-Fi operator in Hong Kong. Its Wi-Fi hotspots are served by 1G optical-fibre backhaul. The number of Wi-Fi hotspots is expected to reach about 17,000 by the end of Feb and 23,000 by the end of 2016.

  • HGC and Link have joined forces to provide free Wi-Fi service at 114 Link’s shopping centres. Members of the public are expected to enjoy fast and stable wireless Internet service at high-traffic shopping malls such as Stanley Plaza, Lok Fu Plaza, Temple Mall, H.A.N.D.S and Lions Rise Mall properties by early April 2016. Visitors can enjoy 30 minutes’ free Wi-Fi service each day. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

    Mobile Business
  • 3 Hong Kong will continue to enhance base station facilities to increase network speed nd coverage to facilitate the development of Hong Kong as a smart city and IoT.

  • The connection between all 3 Hong Kong’s cell sites and HGC’s optical-fibre lease lines has been upgraded to 1Gbps in February to facilitate 4.5G and 5G development in the future.

  • With an increasing customer demand on 4G service, 3 Hong Kong is to re-farm part of its 900MHz spectrum for 4G LTE service in order to enhance capacity and get ready for future carrier aggregation.
