3 Hong Kong’s newly-acquired
4G spectrum block now up and running
New deployment dramatically boosts mobile network speed |

THong Kong, 19 June 2013 - 3 Hong Kong, the mobile telecommunications division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215), today announced that a block of 5MHz paired spectrum in the 2600MHz band acquired in March for 4G deployment began operating in the early hours of Sunday, 16 June. This triggered an immediate boost to mobile network speed, delivering a smooth and fast online experience to users.
HTHKH was successful in its bid for the block of 5MHz paired spectrum in a 2500/2600MHz band radio spectrum auction officiated by the Office of the Communications Authority in March this year. This means the Group’s existing 15MHz paired spectrum in the 2600MHz band has been upgraded to 20MHz paired.
Helping to meet upwardly-spiralling customer demand for mobile broadband, the newly-added spectrum now in operation not only bolsters network capacity to cope with massive volumes of traffic, but also suits the new generation of LTE CAT 4 devices. Theoretically, these have maximum download and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps and 50 Mbps respectively. 3 Hong Kong is now planning to launch a variety of LTE CAT 4 services in the near future.

On 19 March 2013, Genius Brand Limited, HTHKH’s jointly-controlled enterprise, made a successful bid for a block of 5MHz paired spectrum in the 2500/2600MHz band for the provision of mobile telecommunications services in Hong Kong at a cost of HK$290 million over a period of 15 years.
